"Endless Love" floor tiles
My proposal for the design competition organized by Ceramiche Refin S.p.a. and DesignTaleStudio
April 2014

The task of the competition was to design floor tiles for home or retail use by using given size (60x60cm or 75x75cm) and given colours (see below).
The concept of my design is based on the idea that love is the thing we all crave for. And we want it to last forever. The design of the tiles is derived from the chemical compound of the hormone Oxytocin which is said to be responsible for our feelings of joy, pleasure and increased empathy during social communication. It also relieves the levels of stress in the body. It is the hormone that helps us shorten the distance between each other and stimulates the attraction. My goal was to input the concept of love (of any kind) in the design because I wanted to show that we are all connected to our homes and working places by our senses. The touch of our feet with the floor connects us to the building and that connection can be further stimulated by design which also relates to the sight. I think that through design, we can get a whole new vision of the space that surrounds us.
The idea of endless love is implemented in my design by the possibility of combining the tiles in various ways. It is no longer obligatory to follow the same pattern throughout the whole floor, we can start playing with the shapes. The module of the design is the molecule of Oxytocin. I chose to make variations by connecting the same molecule which for me represents the continuity of love (the endless love).
